What is the NBO?

The NBO is a structured session designed to help the parent to see, together with the clinician, their infant's behavioural capacities and to sense the kind of support their infant needs for successful growth and development. It is a relationship-based tool designed to foster the parent-infant relationship. Who are the NBO Master Trainers?

A.Prof Campbell Paul: Campbell is consultant infant psychiatrist and has worked at the Royal Children’s Hospital and at the Royal Women’s Hospital for many years. He believes it is important to meet and understand the baby as a person within the context of their parent and family relationships.

Dr Susan Nicolson: Susan is a general practitioner and infant-parent mental health clinician at the Women’s Mental Health Service at The Women’s Hospital, Melbourne. She is Honorary Fellow in the Departments of General Practice and Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne.

Who is NBO training for?

NBO training is available for a range of professionals working with families with newborns and very young infants including: Mental Health Clinicians, General Practitioners, Midwives, Maternal & child health nurses, Paediatricians, Neonatologists, Obstetricians, Social workers, Family support workers.

What is NBO training?

The NBO workshops are run by two NBO Master Trainers, along with NBO trainers and specialised facilitators with an emphasis on interactive exchange and hands-on practice. In 2024 they will be presented using the NBO Learning Management System, and either a Live Online workshop via Zoom or a Face to Face workshop.

Ticket Price includes:

• NBO Kit (either posted with in Australia, or pick up on day one of a Face to Face workshop),

• Access to Pre-Workshop Module with PowerPoint, Videos and optional further reading,

• Either an Online for three part days, or Face to Face for two full days (14 contact hours),

• Printable handouts for each workshop day,

• Printable NBO Forms for use during and after the workshop,

• Post-Workshop Zoom (optional) date TBC,

• Post-Training Supervision: Record five interventions on the 'NBO Recording Form' (including one videoed intervention for review by the NBO Master Trainers).

Please note: Most NBO workshops book out quickly, and these are the only workshops planned for 2024.
